Rebecca Jago, MD of The Last Drop Distillers, and Louise McGuane, Founder of JJ Corry Irish Whiskey hosted an exceptional evening at Johnny’s at Pebble Bar in New York, on the fourth floor of a legendary townhouse at the Rockefeller Center. Johnny’s was named for Johnny Carson, who had his own private entrance to the rooms.

Friends, trade and press joined Louise and Rebecca for the launch of The Last Drop’s third Signature Creation – and first Irish Whiskey, created by Louise: a 32 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey created from selected casks of vintage 1991 stock, and finished for nearly a year in a fresh ex-oloroso butt.

Crimson and Clover cocktails created by the team at Johnny’s and featuring JJ Corry’s Hanson whiskey kicked off the evening, where the assembled group tasted all three of The Last Drop’s Signature Creations so far: Colin Scott’s 50YO Blended Scotch Whisky, Drew Mayville’s Signature Blend of Kentucky Straight Whiskeys and our latest, Louse McGuane’s Signature 32YO Single Malt Irish Whiskey.

Today marks the Autumn Equinox and the start of a new season. As the leaves change and paint the world in shades of gold and amber, our 31st release: a 50-year-old blended grain Scotch whisky comes to mind.

With a beautiful amber colour, and a symphony of dried fruits and hazelnut oil on the nose, a spicy scent of cloves and cinnamon invites us inside.

On the palate, a bright crisp grassiness greets us but is soon followed by the deep sweetness of the wheat and corn, wrapped in a cloak of velvet. The perfect dram for the season.

Rum has rightfully earned its place among premium

Rum has rightfully earned its place among premium spirits and, after a long search, in 2019 we discovered a truly remarkable cask of aged rum from Jamaica that lives up to the Last Drop’s exacting standards.

Release No. 20, our first rum release, began life in Jamaica in 1976, distilled from pure sugar cane molasses, and aged in ex-bourbon barrels - absorbing the influences of the tropical climate. It then embarked on a voyage to Liverpool, for a final maturation in the salty climate of the docks. The result is an ‘overproof’ rum that blends deep tobacco-scented richness with the smoothness of age to create a masterpiece.

Richard Seale, the owner, distiller and blender of Foursquare Rum, is a founder member of the Last Drop Assembly, providing expertise and authority as we continue our quest to ensure that rum is a key part of our collection.
